6 Wild Stories About Celebrities
Celebrities – they’re just like us. Wrong. Celebrities live some of the most exciting lives imaginable, and they’ve got the stories to match. Are you interested in some real celebrity trivia? We’ve got you covered. Take a look at six of the wildest celebrity stories around below.
Willie Nelson’s Wild Poker Game
Willie Nelson sure knows when to hold ‘em and when to fold ‘em – this country legend is also the host of one of the world’s most exclusive home poker games. According to Global Poker, the games are strictly invitation-only. Regulars include names you’ll recognize – Owen and Luke Wilson, Matthew McConaughey, Woody Harrelson, and plenty of other famous musicians and athletes.
According to Global Poker, “the ruleset isn’t like anything you’d find at a casino with a modified set of house rules, and the room is a cloud of smoke from all the marijuana being smoked. Kindly old Willie Nelson is rumored to be a true poker shark with an aggressive style that has seen him forge a reputation for ruthlessness at the table.”
Willie Nelson, a card shark? We couldn’t believe it either. Here’s hoping we get an invite to the next game.
Tom Hanks’ Typewriter
There’s a whole lot to love about Tom Hanks – his incredible acting, multiple awards, and position as America’s dad all come to mind. However, a 2016 story in Vanity Fair highlighting how Hanks responds to fan mail is as wild as it is wholesome – the perfect example of a quirky celebrity.
Instead of responding to fan correspondence with the typical celebrity headshot and autograph, Hanks took it a step further – he responded to fan mail with a personal note, typed on a typewriter in unique embossed stationary. The signoff? ‘HANX,’ of course. Could he be more perfectly insouciant if he tried? We think not. Stay quirky, Hanx.
Bill Murray’s Epic Bachelor-Party Crash
Bill Murray is up there when it comes to idiosyncratic celebrities – he’s read poetry to construction workers and even bartended at the Shangri-La club during the 2010 SXSW festival. However, our favorite story about Bill Murray is when he crashed a bachelor party in Charleston, South Carolina – and delivered some of the most iconic marriage advice we’ve ever heard. In an article for BestLife, Murray said: “If you have someone that you think is The One, take that person and travel around the world. Buy a plane ticket for the two of you to travel all around the world and go to places that are hard to go to and hard to get out of. And when you land at JFK, and you’re still in love with that person…get married.”
Can you think of better bachelor party advice? We can’t, either. Stay weird, Bill.
Adam Sandler’s Big Cat Encounter
Adam Sandler was on vacation in 2013 when a cheetah, not a critic, almost ended his acting career indefinitely. Sandler was inside an enclosure with some rescued big cats when things took a frightening turn. According to Sky News, “Sandler said the keepers had told him he could feed the cheetah water with his hands, but the footage soon shows that the animal had other ideas. As the actor bends down next to a small pond, the adult cheetah goes behind him and leaps onto his back. Sandler attempts to stand up while the keeper rushes to get the cat off. The animal moves away, but not before appearing to get its claws into Sandler’s back and arm.”
Though Sandler escaped unscathed, the brush with death was shocking – and after the encounter, the keepers advised visitors not to bend down near the cats. A wild ending to a crazy story.
Ed Sheeran’s Knighting Gone Wrong
A knighting gone wrong sounds like a sentence straight out of the middle ages, but that was Ed Sheeran’s unfortunate reality in 2016. James Blunt, Princess Beatrice, and Ed Sheeran were all at a party together when Blunt joked that he’d like to become a knight someday. The royal promptly obliged, grabbing a sword. Things got dicey – according to The Sun, “…as [Princess Beatrice] said ‘arise, Sir James,’ she is believed to have misjudged the weight of the blade and had no idea that Ed Sheeran was standing right behind her.” The blade cut Sheeran’s face a few inches from his eye, and he needed to go to the hospital for stitches.
The Princess was extremely upset about the encounter. Still, Ed was a complete gentleman about it, downplaying the whole event and even returning to the party after going to the hospital.
Keeping Up With the Kardashians…or are you?
The Kardashians are an open book – well, that’s what happens when you’ve had a reality show that’s aired for more than 200 episodes. However, that’s not the experience that journalist Alexandra Carlton had in 2012 when she interviewed Kim, Kourtney, and Khloe about their new jeans line. The Kardashian sisters are unexpected jokesters, and Carlton opened up about the experience in a recent article for Marie Claire: “Phone interviews are tricky when you’re talking to more than one person. It’s hard to keep track of who’s saying what. My usual technique is to ask each participant to announce their name so I can register how each voice sounds. I remember some odd shuffling and giggling at the time, but each sister did as they were asked. ‘Hi, I’m Kourtney.’ ‘Hi, I’m Khloe.’ And finally, ‘Hi, I’m Kim.’”
The conversation aired on the Kardashian’s reality show, but with a critical part missing – Kim. Carlton was online speaking to two of the Kardashian sisters, who decided to impersonate Kim over the phone – cue the giggles. And for Carlton? She was embarrassed but clapped back: “I challenge anyone to tell the difference between any of those sugary Southern Californian accents. Now when I think about it, I laugh. As it turns out, I really can’t keep up with the Kardashians.”
Celebrities – they aren’t like us, are they? These wild stories have inspired us to tell more jokes, share more laughs, host a weekly poker game and steer clear of the cheetah cage.
